History of Shree Adya Katyayani Shaktipeeth Mandir, Delhi

According to legends, the Shree Adya Katyayani Shaktipeeth Mandir was founded by Baba Sant Nagpal Ji who was born in a Karnataka village on March 10, 1925. It is said that he lost both his parents at a very young age and while performing the last rites of his mother, an unknown lady took him to the nearby temple and told him pointing towards the Mother Goddess that she was the one who would always be with him no matter what.

Right from that time, Baba Sant Nagpal Ji started staying there. Soon, she became a living reality for him and he surrendered himself completely in the lap of the divine mother. Whenever he wished to do something, he would always take her permission and blessings first. Yes, such was his belief in the Mother Goddess.

Later, when Baba was all grown up, he thought of visiting many pilgrimage sites situated at the different corners of the nation. His itinerary included the holy places from the Himalayan region to the ones in East India and South India and even to the cold Tibetan plateau that lies approximately 4000 meters high above sea level.

After that, Baba Ji spent a few years of his life in the valley of Kashmir and then moved to Delhi with the guidance of Maa Durga. In Delhi, he was living in Arjun Nagar and hence, built a temple there. Later, he shifted to Durga Ashram before finally moving to the present location where the Shree Adya Katyayani Shaktipeeth Mandir is located.
