History of the Gauri Shankar Temple, Delhi

There is an interesting tale behind the origin of the Gauri Shankar Temple. It is said that once there was a Maratha soldier and an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, Apa Ganga Dhar, who was badly injured in a battle. He was so weak that his chances of survival were almost none. So, to save himself, he started worshipping Lord Shiva and vowed to design a temple in its honor if he survived.

Luckily, against all odds, his condition started improving gradually and one fine day, he became all hale and hearty. To keep his promise, he built the temple, which was later renovated by Seth Jaipura in the year 1959. This is how the Gauri Shankar Temple came into the picture.
